1st Battalion, 3rd Marines (1/3) is an infantry battalion in the United State Marine Corps based out of Marine Corps Base Hawaii,  Nicknamed the "Lava Dogs".

With the re-designation from 1st training battalion to 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment June 17th 1942. The Lava Dogs would be seen on many battle fields throughout history;

World War II - Battle of Bougainville, Guadalcanal, Battle of Guam, Battle of Iwo Jima.

Vietnam War - The second Marine Infantry unit to hit South Vietnam, the movement to Da Nang Air Base, The Set offensive. 

November 27th, 1969 1st Battalion, 3d Marines would find it's life lasting home on Kaneohe Bay on Oahu Hawaii.

1980' - 1st Battalion, 3d Marines responded to the Philippines Coup attempt.

The Gulf War - 1st Battalion, 3d Marines was deployed to Saudi Arabia in support of Operation Desert Shield on the coastal highway of leading to Kuwait. 

Desert Storm - 1st Battalion, 3d Marines assaulted Kuwait in effort to liberate the country. 

The Global War on Terrorism - 1st Battalion, 3d Marines combined with Task Force 53 for initial phase of Operation Enduring Freedom. Second Battle of Fallujah. Operation Enduring Freedom, Korangle Valley. Haditha Iraq. Karma Iraq. Nawa District Iraq in support of Operation Moshtarak.
